Nikos Machlas and Co were pushing for the breakthrough on the break’s brink when, just outside his own box, Michael Emenalo recovered possession and fed Emmanuel Amunike. The electric No11 accelerated up the stylishly striped turf, away from two Greeks, and managed to poke the ball to Finidi George. The Ajax winger was immediately pounced upon by centre-back Giannis Kalitzakis and goalkeeper Christos Karkamanis, but he cannily dinked it over the latter. George celebrated the goal, which set up a 2-0 victory, by imitating a urinating dog. Eagles may be solitary operators, but three super ones had combined to continue this convocation’s American adventure.
